A lovely note from Caroline Beidler
One of my drawings was presented as an award to Caroline Beidler, an activist in a campaign to clean up a manganese factory. She sent me the sweetest note saying how much she liked the picture. She also wrote, "I count myself very blessed to have been able to meet and work with you." The honor was mine, Caroline.photo:Melissa English, Caroline Beidler and Rachael Belz at Ohio Citizen Action's 35th anniversary party in Cincinnati.

Center for Creativity at the Columbus Museum of Art
I went down to Columbus yesterday for a "creativity in your life" conference. Artie Isaac was the main presenter - he was witty and entertaining and made the whole trip worthwhile. The keynote was Pullitzer Prize winner, Michael Chabon. He was also great.Fiber artist and professor at CCAD, Jon Wahling

Dog Power Salute
Another great moment in Doggie History inspired by...
The 1968 Olympics Black Power salute was a noted black power protest and one of the most overtly political statements[1] in the history of the modern Olympic Games. African American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos performed the Black power salute at the Olympic Stadium in Mexico City.

Kent Henrickson
Tom went to the Cleveland Print Show yesterday and spotted work by an amazing artist, Kent Henrickson. This is Judith Solodkin from SOLO Impression Inc - she's holding the print we purchased, The Children’s Fable I (Pink). It's a lithograph on pink linen with digital embroidery. I loved everything at their table. Seeing his work combined with Emily's workshop last week has got my mind spinning.

Emily Felderman workshop
(photo: Charla, Karen, Emily, me, Carole, Helen, and ???!!!)
Yesterday I spent the day with some delightful ladies. The Cleveland Museum of Art hosted a workshop by Emily Felderman, a local textile artist. Her technique involves the accumulation of hundreds of teeny, tiny stitches. I'll post a photo of my piece when it's a little further along.
